Brent Barrett

Brent Barrett here, asking for your #1 Vote in this election.

Serving as your City Councillor, I'm fully committed to providing you with effective representation, and to empowering communities and restoring the natural environment here in Palmerston North.

Ensuring the city is well-served is job one.  You deserve best value from the rates we levy and invest on your behalf.

The future is ours for the making, and we need to get it right on the big challenges.  Climate change. A just transition to clean energy. Cleaning up our rivers. Ensuring everyone has a safe warm dry place to live.  Better access to meaningful work, opportunity, and community connections.

If this resonates with you - please consider sharing, joining or supporting this campaign!

Born 1973 and raised in the American West, I'm a scientist by trade. My first jobs were on farms, sparking my love of the land and learning.  This led to me studying biology and agricultural science.

I’ve chosen to make Palmerston North my home since 2000, living in Takaro, Hokowhitu, Kahuterawa Valley, West End, and more recently back in Hokowhitu since 2007.

As a Green Party candidate for City Council in 2016, I was elected and have worked hard to serve you, building and maintaining strong, effective links to the wider community and Council.

Environment & Sustainability and Active & Public Transport are two portfolios I've led. I'm also active in the group steering our process for wastewater system upgrades, and am a commissioner under the Resource Management Act.

I’m pleased with a number of decisions and recent actions in Council.  Examples are the target for drawing down carbon emissions, a resolution protecting social housing, and investments for street upgrades providing safer transport options for all, including people walking and on bikes.

These are the sort of decisions that make our city an even better place to live, work and play; and the sort of progress I'll continue striving for on the strength of your vote to earn a second term in Council.

My wife Julie and I are fully committed to Palmerston North.  We greatly enjoy time with family and friends, reading, and making the most of the great local paths for walking and biking.
